By actively protecting our hedgerows and pastures we
are privileged to share our land with a rich assortment
of wildlife ranging from millions of vital earthworms, helpful, dock eating,
green beetles to red deer, otters
and occasional evidence of the Beast of Exmoor. Wild black rabbits, badgers,
foxes, stoats and many small mammals live in the wide hedgebanks while above
them are many species of songbirds. We also enjoy seeing
our resident bumble bees appear each spring after their winter hibernation.
We are working with English Nature to preserve the feeding grounds of a colony
of very rare greater horseshoe bats. Sympathetic farming is crucial in supporting
our wealth of wildlife. West Hill Farm is committed to keeping a small corner
of North Devon sensitively managed, benefiting the wildlife and those
who enjoy it.
